The cerebrum -- which is just Latin for "brain" -- is the newest (evolutionarily) and largest part of the brain as a whole. It is here that things like perception, imagination, thought, judgment, and decision occur. I hope you are thoughtful as you leave your comments on this blog.

Using Google Docs
The use of Google Docs in the classroom could revolutionize cooperative learning... (please think about this statement react to it)
I agree. The use of Google Docs is an excellent cooperative learning tool. The blog I created in class yesterday has opened new ideas for me to use with my third grade inclusion class. I shared the idea with my coteacher and she agrees. She is very excited too. We plan to send out permission slips so that parents can sign for the students to make up accounts to us at home. I hope my students and their parents cooperate with me on this new endeaver.
Google Docs certainly brings a new meaning of cooperative learning to the classroom. Students can communicate with one another during school and non- school hours. It can be monitored by parents and teachers alike. Also, each user account is known which helps eliminate any inappropriate communication and use of the tool.
In the past, cooperative learning was often difficult due to the lack of class time available to work on projects. Not only that, but students may have a hard time getting together after school hours. I agree with ggirl in that students will now be able to communicate easily on their own time and less valuable class time will be used. The use of Google Docs and other technology will make Cooperative learning much more accessible and enjoyable for students now and into the future.
I envision google docs being a good way to post homework sheets and alternative assignments that my children will be able to access on their own time. The blog we have been working on will also be a great way to communiacte links to such documents while igniting conversation and discussion using essential questions. I agree with michelle in the sense that these tools will be good for cooperative purposes but I also know cooperative learning to not be as diffciult as many think. Using various groupings from ability level (tiered) to random are all simple ways to incorporate cooperative learning in short and effective bursts. The more you do it and the more stategies you learn to accomplish it, the easier it becomes.. sometimes to the point where you do not even realize you are doing it.
Google Docs is an innovative way to incorporate corporative learning in a class. It provides students the opportunity to share their knowledge in a different form. Children can learn a lot from one another, and Google Docs is an excellent way for them to do so. It allows them to share inside and outside the classroom. I agree with Michelle and Daniel in that is an excellent way to modify students’ work according to their abilities. It can allow student to excel within their capabilities.
Google docs are essential in the classroom. It can revolutionize cooperative classroom learning by providing new opportunities and collaboration among all the students of a classroom. It provides ideas to be shared among many students at once that have access to a computer, as well as the teacher. Students are also able to communicate with each other, as well as the teacher while using Google docs. I have enjoyed using this program since being introduced to it. In addition, students can quickly share images and other papers between one another, all while the teacher monitors the actions of all the students in the classroom.
If u think about it, how often do children get together after school unless they live relatively close to one another. Google Docs gives children that opportunity to stay in touch whether it be for school or not school issues. This is also a good way of helping students improve in their pragmatic and writing skills. This is a new age of cooperative learning and it's a big bonus for children to have.
I also agree. The use of Google Docs allows students to collaborate on projects on their own time making group work easier to accomplish. Contact between students and teachers as well as students and other students can be monitered through this program. Also, if students have questions on assignments, they won't have to wait for help - classmates or teachers can quickly respond and help with any questions. There is also a sense of open communication. Some students may be shy and not want to share their thoughts in front of a large class but they may feel more comfortable when using a non face-to-face tool such as Google Docs.
Google Docs will give teachers a new way to use cooperative learning in their classrooms. There is only so much time in the day for teachers to use cooperative learning but now with Google Docs they can use cooperative learning outside of their classrooms, not just in inside the classroom. This will also give students a new way to participate in their classes.
The use of google docs would alleviate the restrictions of classroom confinements, It transcends the boundaries of the classroom. Students could integrate pictures, videos and other documents in to their learning experience. Google docs also allows students to act as the teacher, if a peer (or teacher) is interested in something a student posts, they can ask that student to explain it and "teach" it. Google docs is also very helpful for the introverted students in the classroom who may feel less pressure expressing their ideas through a google doc post rather than in the classroom. I think google docs is also great because many times when I ws in school I would think of a relevant comment or question after class, I would forget it by the next day, but google docs would have afforded me the opportunity to post it and have my question answered. Google docs is also very valuable because, like ggirl said the information exchanged can be monitored, by teachers and parents, at the same time our students can help their somewhat computer illiterate parents navigate the web and how rewarding is that for a child, to be smarter than your parent?!
I completely agree that Google Docs can revolutionize cooperative learning. Two weeks ago, I might not have had the same response, but after sunday's class I can honestly say that Google Docs is an incredibly useful tool. Information and work can be posted, and students can respond to each other easily. This is great because it can be monitored by a teacher as well. In discussing the dangers of the internet with myspace and facebook and sites of that sort, we all know kids can't be too careful when using the internet. This is a great way for students to communicate while still being school oriented.
I believe that students learn from each other, which is why I am a huge fan of cooperative learning. This is also why I really like Google Docs. I think it is great that students can collaborate with each other instantly through the computer. It not only allows them to do school work, it also teaches them technology, and how to work with others- an important skill needed for everyday life.
Google docs seems like a great cooperative tool that could be used to help get teachers, parents and students all on the same wavelength. Besides it being fairly easy to use, and it being a "live" forum, it obviously lets users operate on it outside of the classroom. I also liked the organizational features behind the application...folders are something that I have come to rely on heavily, and so that is a comfort to see. I think students would hit the ground running once this tool was incorporated into the classroom.
Google Documents can revolutionize the idea of collaborative learning. It is a tool that allows students to create knowledge, presentations, essays, research papers, projects etc. in a collaborative and real-time way.
Google docs can be used to put forward ideas and questions in an anonymous and non-threatening way. For example, to get students started on a project they could brainstorm a topic and objective, by adding ideas to Google documents.
Google Documents can help students to stay organized, by keeping track off their most up to date drafts, and by being able to access and share their documents from almost anywhere. Using Google Documents in the classroom can definitely put an end to the age-old story “the dog ate my homework”!
During the class today the idea of having a “scribe team” was introduced. I think that this is a great idea, and promotes colaborative note-taking! This would help ensure that every member of the class had a consistent and accurate set of class notes. Implementing a “scribe team” to post class notes on Google Documents creates a level playing field for every class member, even someone who was absent!
I like that google documents allows multiple people to work and revise, each focused on the same goals. I think this might be useful for an extra study set up for parents who would like to work with their kids from home, where I can also view it to stay current and keep track of progress.
