Feedback for our Presenters...
Terry and Meghan would like some feedback. Would you please respond with your feedback about their presentation on co-teaching. Thank you!
I thought Terry and Meghan’s presentation on Friday was really good. I liked hearing about their experiences. I liked hearing their view on co-teaching and what a good co-teaching atmosphere looks like. I learned that communication and a good relationship between the general education teacher and the special education teacher is important for the co-teaching method to work in a classroom. As a general education teacher, I would definitely want to work together with the special education teacher. Even though I like doing things my own way, I definitely think that I have to think about my students first instead of what I want. By putting my students first, I know that I must work and create a good relationship with the special education teacher because I know that the special education teacher will have some great ideas about how to teach the students in my class. In a secondary setting, I learned that each teacher has his/her specialty. The general education teacher’s specialty is in his/her specific subject and the special education teacher’s specialty is in how to teach each specific student. Together, these two types of teachers can make a class learn and can make each student achieve success. Being a graduate from Mineola, I remember that in the middle school, every ninth period all three years we had the class called AIS. But this ninth period was for all students. I remember that this period was one of my favorite periods of the day. We would be split into groups and each week the groups rotated to different main subject teachers. I liked this period because we did all different things in the class and the teachers made it fun. We would play games or do creative projects that were fun. This semester I learned that AIS is for students who need extra help. Is this true now in Mineola? Or is it still for all students? I think it was great that all students had the opportunity to have an extra class in a different subject from week to week. Maybe the groups were formed based on the level of the students. I had a great experience in the Mineola schools and I have a feeling that is because of the community of teachers and the warm environment that each classroom had. Hearing Terry, Meghan, and Professor Smith’s stories made me see that Mineola is still like that and I am glad to hear it.
I learned a lot from Terry and Meghan's presentation and I appreciate the advice and the handouts they provided to us. I think that it is refreshing to see people who are out in the field, energetic, and passionate about what they want to do. I hope that when I become a teacher, I remember to utilize my co-teachers as much as possible. I think it is so important to reach every student no matter what their level may be. Co-teachers are in the classroom to make sure that those who already behind don't continue to fall back but are able to move forward.
I really enjoyed Terry and Meghan's presentation on Friday. I really didn’t know much about co-teaching and I felt that this presentation gave me some new insight on it. I didn’t really get to see any co-teaching while I was observing at my high school so it was really great to hear their stories about their experiences in co-teaching. Also, going into the education field as a general education teacher, it was nice to hear their perspective on co-teaching. This way, when I have to co-teach in the future, I will have an idea of what the special education teacher is also going through. If I understand the special education teacher’s feelings and responsibilities, then I can form a better relationship with them which will result in a good classroom environment. I also liked how they stated that different teachers will have different relationships. Some teachers will get along right away and others it will be more structured and formal. Either way, if both teachers understand their responsibilities and contribute to the classroom, they can create great lessons and environments for their students. So this means that two teachers don’t have to be best friends in order to have good communication in the classroom. The point is to try to do the best you can. Also, I enjoyed taking the relationship quiz! I thought that was interesting. Also, I liked the examples of the modified classroom worksheets. I thought that was really helpful to see an example of that. Overall I thought the presentation was great. Both Terry and Meghan were so energetic and funny which made the presentation fun to watch. I still feel like there’s a lot more for me to learn but it was a great way to start learning about co-teaching.
I enjoyed Terry and Meghans presentation last friday. It was refreshing to hear about co teaching experiences that actually worked. From my own experiences and from talking to others i have really never heard or seen a co teaching experience that works. It was nice to hear that co teaching can actually be a really great and helpful experience for yourself and the class. It was helpful to see the modifications in the packet they gave out and how you make modifications to help the students.
It was a interesting presentation. I didn't hear much of co-teaching experiences prior to last Friday. Of course, I'm a believer to experience this myself to fully grasp of what Terri and Meghan were discussing. As of now, I can only listen and ask questions.
I was incredibly impressed with Terry and Meghan's presentation on the dynamics of the co-taught class room. The passion each of them bring to their profession was quite evident by their willingness to share their experiences voluntarily on a Friday afternoon. I thought the parallel drawn between our relationship with significant others and the relationship we need have with a co-teaching partner was enlightening. I believe most graduate students, pre-service or otherwise need not be sold on the benefits of a co-taught classroom. I can see where current professionals may be somewhat reluctant to share their classrooms, but I am completely on board. While observing Terry's class I was one of four adults present during a station teaching exercise. That allowed for 4 out of 5 stations to receive individual attention constantly, something I believe added to the stregnth of the lesson. I would have liked to hear more about some of the nuances that may have been discussed had Meghan and Terry not been in the presence of their principal. That being said I feel that I took a great deal from their time spent with us. I am extremly appreciative of the examples of differentiated work that they had to offer. Any opportunity an aspiring educator has to hear from people who are in currently in the field is invaluable. I admire their dedication to their students and their profession.
I enjoyed Terry and Meghan's presentation. This dynamic-duo illuminated the possitive relationship between team-mates in a classroom setting. I appreciated all the valuable information about their real-life classroom experiences. The enthusiasm, the pasion and the genuine love for reaching they exuded was contagious. Now more than before I am motivated to work together with the special education teacher in my future teacher career. Also I liked the unplanned dress code used for them. The white shirt, black sweter and the similar pant's color. It make me think that they are really wel connected. It is awesome to see a team that have the same goal and inspiration to help EIP students to succed in every day life. Thanks ladies for having transmitted all your knowledge with us. I appreciated it.
Reading about co-teaching in an educational text or being lectured on its dynamics is not nearly as effective as being presented with two living, breathing examples of its successes. The teachers clearly were devoted to their jobs, and happy with their careers, which is encouraging but candid in their assessments of the realities of co-teaching. It was certainly an excellent reinforcement to the course.
I would like to thank Terry and Meghan for an awesome presentation. It was very informative and I learned a lot more about co-teaching and inclusive environments as a whole. By learning about their daily experiences as a special education teacher, I would really like to work with a co-teacher to make my future classroom an enjoyable experience for my students. Their enthusiasm and love for the field of special education, made me want to pursue a second degree in special education one day. I would like to also thank them for the creative packets they organized for us.
I really enjoyed the presentation given by Terry and Meghan. It put a lot in perspective of what it is going to be like teaching in an environment with two teachers. I hope in the future when I am in that situation the special ed teacher in the classroom is like them. They seem like really great people and colleges. I really like that they gave of examples of modified worksheets because I had no clue how to even begin to do that. I really appreciate all of the advice and the information that they give. It will be very helpful.
