The cerebrum -- which is just Latin for "brain" -- is the newest (evolutionarily) and largest part of the brain as a whole. It is here that things like perception, imagination, thought, judgment, and decision occur. I hope you are thoughtful as you leave your comments on this blog.

Steve Jobs' Commencement Speech @ Stanford University (2005)
I enjoyed watching Steve Jobs commencement speech in sunny California! I think this is something that I plan on using with my special education students because it provides a tremendous amount of encouragement and insight into the life of an adolescent. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I think every school district should play this speech in their classroom and have their students write a short essay on how they found this speech motivating. There were so many positive messages about life that one could take away from his speech at Stanford. Hopefully, it will encourage my students and inspire them.
I agree with Josh in that this speech is quite motivating and inspirational. I think it would be a good addition to a character education program as it personifies many of the positive character traits we try to encourage in the schooling community.

I think this speech was motivational in an unconventional sort of way. This extremely powerful man made it big in a way most people don't get to. He obviously was very bright and may not have gone about schooling in a traditional way, but it just goes to show that everyone learns a different way and everyone has something that they excel at. You just have to find it in your own way. I think this is an important speech to show to students, especially older students. Motivation is necessary for success and I feel Steve Jobs conveys that very well.
I thought this was very inspirational. His speech showed that that some does not need to have a college degree to make something of themselves. Givenh the times we are living in many studnets feel like they have to go to college to make something of themselves. This speech showed that with a little determination you can do anything you set your mind to. For some students this is what they need. I thought this speech was great!
I agree with Caitlin’s comment in that Steve Job’s speech can show students they do not always have to follow a traditional way to success. It shows them there are other opportunities in the world for them. I think it would be great to show graduating Seniors in order for them to think outside the box to become successful.
My father always told me that if I ever thought about not going to college, he would give me a good amount of money and kick me out of the house. This is why i took my college life very serious. I always had my parents down my neck when it came to me getting a college education. Honestly, Steve Job's story is not something that happens likely. He basically took a little bit of info that he learned from one of his classes and became a millionaire. I agree that this speech is motivating and inspiring but it might send the wrong message to kids. That wrong message you don't have to go to college to be successful. I'm sorry, this speech is not something I would recommend.
I agree with josh. Students on all levels can benefit from this motivational speech to help encourage them to strive no matter what their circumstances are. However, I think the speech could be used to motivate teachers as well. Teachers sometime get set in their ways and aren't willing or open to use or try new strategies on their students. When students aren't receptive to one style of learning there should be other methods that are used instead of just giving up and making referrals to special education. Steve's speech was a great motivational tool.
It was a wonderful way to invite great minds to our classroom and apply those in the lesson. I think it will be a good tool to help children think about lots of different current issues also
